WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Fourth-grade Ethan Dale King began taking piano lessons against his own will and was promised by his mother that he could quit if he wanted to after one full year. That same year, he joined the National Junior Beta Club and attended the State Convention with is fellow members. There his Beta Sponsor learned that there was an opening in the competition for fourth grade performing arts. Knowing that Ethan Dale was learning the piano, she approached him and asked if he would be willing to compete.
With legs that dangled from the piano bench and no sheet music, Ethan gave it his best shot and, surprisingly, made it past preliminaries. A quick call was made to his parents who rushed over the sheet music for the "Great Smoky Mountains" just before finals. The judges fell in love with the tiny pianist who had to scoot across the bench just to reach all the keys. That evening, Ethan Dale King won his first State Championship. Needless-to-say, he never quit taking piano lessons.
